Don’t Let Excuses Control Your Life

How often do you use your past as an excuse to justify your present life situation or your behavior? Do you use your past as an excuse to indulge in negative habits?  Do you use a failed relationship as an excuse not to trust anyone? If you are fully aware of where your excuses are coming from, you no longer have an excuse for making excuses!  It is time to take personal responsibility for your life. The only person making you and your life the way it is, is you.  Yes, you heard me correctly!  It’s all YOU!  You are the one who has the control in your life; not the past, not the future, and not anyone else.

You make excuses because you are afraid to face the truth.  You are afraid to look in the mirror and admit where and who you are is because of the choices YOU made, no one else.  You make excuses to avoid the life that is right in front of you.  Believe it or not, the truth will set you free and it will put you back in tune with your Inner Life.  When you stop making excuses and starting taking personal responsibility you will begin to feel empowered.  You will start to feel a sense of freedom because all those excuses will no longer be holding you back.  You will be able to move forward in every area of your life.  Oddly enough, you will find there was nothing to fear.

Living with excuses is the same as resisting all that life has to offer.  You are resisting what is and the present moment because you are too focused in the past or future.  If you use the pain of a past relationship as an excuse not to trust someone, you will only be hurting yourself.  You will find yourself avoiding relationships.  Is that really what you want?  What is important for you to know is that you always have a choice as to how you react and FEEL in regards to any experience.  You can choose to accept it for what it is and move on or you can choose to use it as an excuse and remain stuck.

Take some time to think about your life, where you are, and why you make the choices you do and then ask yourself these questions: Am I taking personal responsibility or making excuses?  How often do I find myself making excuses?  Am I blaming someone else for my current life situation? Am I living the life I want to live?  Am I moving forward or standing still? Am I truly happy?  What am I going to do about it?

Nothing you have or do is because of anyone other than you! Once you come to the realization that YOU are the creator of your life and there is no need for excuses, you will begin to live a joyous and abundant life!  So, what is the first step you are committed to taking right now?

How Much Does Your Life Weigh?

What is life weight?  Life weight is what you carry around with you on a day-to-day basis that you do not need.  Two of the heaviest pieces of weight we carry with us is past and future weight. We clog ourselves up with negative events from the past and worries about the future not realizing how much damage it is doing to our bodies and minds. This type of life weight will cause you to be out of tune with your Inner Life creating stress, anxiety, depression, weight problems, addictions, frustration, anger, fear and/or disease.

The only weight you should be concerned about at any given moment in time is the weight you need right NOW. Surprisingly enough the weight you need right now does not exist. There is no life weight when you live in the here and now because there is nothing in the present moment to weigh you down.  Why is this?  Because nothing from the past or future ever exists when you are focused and living in the present moment!  

Let’s say for example that someone hurt you many years ago and yet you still hold onto the pain.  You avoid getting close to anyone in fear of being hurt again.  You have lost your confidence and you have no trust when it comes to relationships.  Do you need this memory and the pain in order to live?  No, of course not.  So why do you allow it to weigh you down?  Why do you allow it to control you?  If you were to lose the weight of this past event, how do you think you would feel?  Yes, you would feel relief and you would feel good again not only about yourself but about the possibility of future relationships.

If you would like to figure out how much your life weighs take out several pieces of paper and write down all the negative past events that you think about on a regular basis.  Write down every future worry you have.  Now take some time to read and re-read your lists and then ask yourself, being totally honest, how much of this stuff do I need RIGHT NOW?  I can guarantee you won’t need any of it and you won’t stop breathing from the lack of it.  In fact, you will probably begin to breathe easier, feeling lighter and lighter as you get rid of each and every piece of weight.

Each day when you wake up, take a few minutes before getting out of bed to remind yourself that you do not need all of your life’s weight in order to survive.  So before your feet hit the floor, leave them all behind and start your day off with a very deep breath of relief knowing there will be nothing weighing you down today! All you need is you in the present moment so don’t waste another minute of your life!

Temporary Bouts of Unhappiness

104There will be times in your life when you experience bouts of unhappiness. These bouts are only temporary if you want them to be. They come from being out of tune with your Inner Life, with who you really are. Once you get back in tune your life will get back to where you want it to be, guaranteed.

There are, and will always be, certain life situations which will cause you to become out of tune with your Inner Life. They could range in intensity from something very mild to something as gut wrenching as the loss of a loved one. Regardless the intensity, when you remain within yourself through any unwanted life situation, the outcome ~ how it affects you ~ will be a positive one. Meaning, it won’t define who you are nor will it take anything away from you. In extreme situations there will be periods of emotional pain and sadness, but there will also be peace and well-being deep within which will be felt when you are in tune with your Inner Life.

99To live through your Inner Life is no different from living in the present moment because you are the present moment. You are here now and that is something that will never change. The present moment is full of positive energy, abundance, well-being, unconditional love, peace, joy and true happiness. It is a natural part of who you really are. You are never without it.

Your Inner Life does not know the past, future, stress, worry, anxiety, depression, dis-ease or lack. It is when we live outside ourselves, in our outer lives, that we suffer and live unhappy lives. The more consistently you live in the present moment, the more in tune you will be and the more your life will change. There is nothing complicated about it because it is your natural state of being.

103When faced with bouts of unhappiness, it is up to you as to how long you want to keep them alive. The most powerful “tool” I have found through my 25 years of experience and study is also a natural part of who you are. It is called breathing. Yes, that is it ~ plain and simple. Breathing my way back in tune with my Inner Life has been the easiest and most effective method I have ever tried and used.
