How does your life feel? Does it feel light, bright and full of shine? Or does it feel cluttered, heavy and dull? Maybe it is time to do some de-cluttering for a fresher and more airy environment. Our lives are no different than our homes.
Over the years we accumulate things we have brought in ourselves and things we have allowed others to bring in. If you were to take an honest look at what you have accumulated, how much of it do you REALLY need and want? How much of it would you like to live without?
The easiest way to determine what is cluttering your life is to ask yourself what is working for you and what isn’t. What is causing you grief and what is bringing you joy. What takes your breath away and what causes you not to be able to breathe. These things could be anything from relationships dragging you down, a job you don’t like, or being unable to find that one pair of shoes because your closet is packed full of “stuff”. It could also be things that others bring into your life such as negativity, drama, problems, etc. You are not a dumping ground so why allow the trash.
When you live a cluttered life it is hard to breathe. You live your days as if you are walking in mud, taking step after step but not really getting anywhere. This is because you have so much clutter weighing you down, holding you back, and keeping you in your outer life, when you need to be more in your Inner Life.
Clutter not only affects your spiritual and mental well-being but it also affects your physical well-being. For when your life is cluttered with the unwanted it creates an imbalance in your life and that imbalance can create health issues.
Where to begin? You begin by taking a good, long, honest look at your life. Make a list of the people, places and things that make up your days on a regular basis. Now, for each one of those people, places and things, write down how they make you feel. If you want this to work, you are going to have to be honest. I know this can be tough because you may come to realizations you have not wanted to face before, but I assure you, it will be OK.
Once you have determined who/what you want to remain in your life, start taking the necessary steps to move away from what you no longer need or want. Start with something simple and/or one at a time if it is more comfortable for you. Or if you just want to get it over with, de-clutter all at once…that’s what I did and boy oh boy what a relief it was!
They say that less is more and this I can attest to. For those who have actual clutter in the home, start there. Go through all your things and determine what you really need. If you haven’t used it in the last 6 months or it is sitting in the basement or in a closet, do you really need it? Start getting rid of what you don’t use, need or want. Don’t just throw things away – if they are in good condition, do yourself and others a favor and take them to your local donation center. Or, if you would like to make some extra money, have a yard sale or sell your items on E-Bay!
Once you have started the in-home de-clutter process, I can guarantee, you will start to feel so much better. It is at this point you will naturally feel the need to de-clutter your life. Why? Because when you give your home a new, fresh, light and airy environment you are not going to want to start cluttering it back up again whether it be with material clutter or life clutter!
De-cluttering your life to only include the people, places and things which bring you joy and happiness is one of the best things you can do for yourself and for those around you. It will not only serve you better, but it clears the air, creates a fresher environment, and relieves stress, anxiety and dis-ease. It also allows you to breathe, connect more fully to your Inner Life, and be who you were truly meant to be. Wouldn’t this type of life be better than one in which you are suffocating yourself from all that clutter? I would think so!
