Every day is a new day; a new beginning if you choose. What happened yesterday no longer matters unless you want it to matter. Some of us wake with dread due to things we have said or done the day before we are not proud of. Some of us wake with dread over things we have not said or done that we know we should have. Regardless of what you have done or not done, don’t let it affect your today. Move on with a positive attitude and a renewed spirit.
When the negative energy of regret is carried around it will eventually build on itself. It will stop you from doing the “right” things because at the same time it causes you to feel “less than”. You feel bad about the things done or not done so therefore you feel bad about yourself. Some get to the point where they lose their worthiness and self-love. When you get to this point, life may turn destructive. You may start picking up bad behavior patterns, become irresponsible, stop caring or even suffer from depression.
We were taught from the time we were born that we should feel “bad” when we do “bad” things, however, what is the point in feeling bad as long as you are remorseful? If you can rectify the situation, than rectify it. If you need to do or say something, then just do it; stop putting it off. Do whatever you need to do to get past the feeling of “badness” and back to feeling good. If an amends is in order and the person you are making that amends to is not accepting of it, do not take it personally and don’t hang onto their negative response. If they choose not to forgive, that is their problem, not yours.
I am, of course, speaking in terms of minor “offenses”. When you get into major offenses, it gets a little complicated but still possible to move on.
If you find it difficult to move away from the negative feelings, turn your focus onto something else. The best thing would be to think of something that does make you feel good. It does not matter if it is something that happened 10 years ago, if it makes you laugh and gives you positive feelings, think about it as much as possible. The next thing would be to feel appreciation and love for all the great things and people in your life. Once you start conditioning yourself and changing your focus, it will start to come automatically because your body and mind will then be programmed to feel good when it starts to feel bad! Trust me, it works, I have done it!
Feeling bad about ourselves or our actions can very quickly diminish our joy and happiness but it does not have to. You can still be happy today no matter what was done yesterday. In other words, “life” does not have to change who you really are. You are human, you are going to make mistakes, just don’t let those mistakes eat you alive. You are worthy. You are loved.
