Telling the Truth About Yourself to Yourself

75I know all too well from past experience what unhappiness feels like and how it can destroy not only your sense of peace and well-being but your health and life experiences.  I also know what true happiness feels like and how it enhances your sense of peace, well-being, improves your health and creates joyous life experiences. 

The hardest part for me, into my journey toward true happiness, was telling the truth about me.  Writing down who I was at that moment in time, how I felt about myself, and the things I was doing to create my miserably unhappy life.  This journaling process did in fact create some pain, but it was only temporary.  It was no worse than living the way I was living on a day-to-day basis.  I took the bad with the good because I knew in my heart the only way back to me was to face the person in the mirror. 

68I had avoided myself for nearly 20 years because I did not like who I was.  I was uncomfortable in my own skin and couldn’t stand a moment alone with myself.  I tried everything under the sun to feel better but when nothing worked, I knew the time had come.  I knew I had to face who I was before I could release who I had become.  This did NOT involve going back through my entire past dredging up all the things I had regret.  It involved sitting down with pen and paper and talking to myself in the present moment.  I wrote about how I felt at that moment, I wrote about the things I was doing or not doing that were causing me to be unhappy. I wrote about my self-sabotaging behaviors.  I even wrote about what was bringing me happiness so I would have something good and positive to focus on.  I questioned myself and my motives and before I knew it, I had pages and pages filled with words that not only brought me relief, but brought me clarity.  When I was done, the answers were all right there in front of me.  That was the end.  There was no going back.  I walked out of who I was not and right into the greater part of who I truly am. 

76As simple and easy as it may sound, I would be lying if I said the last 8 years have been completely filled with joy, because they have not.  I have had significant struggles just like everyone else, but once I chose happiness and began living through my Inner Life, my life completely changed.  Through practiced awareness, meditation, mindful living, and putting how I feel as my priority, I have been able to handle life with ease, and yes, true happiness.  I may feel frustrated or sad from time to time, but I am never unhappy! 

There were some residual setbacks at the start of my journey, but I did what I had to do. Only this time I was doing it with no resistance.  I was no longer fighting with myself or with life.  I had surrendered to who I was not.  I had conquered the demons inside me.  It was then I was able to begin to love myself and feel the happiness that resided inside me.  It felt like I was born again and given a clean slate.  The only thing I wanted was to be truly happy and I wasn’t going to stop until I had it and learned how to maintain it.  This was 8 years ago.  Today, as I write this to you, I am still Leaping Like A Frog – A Happy one that is!

63As you learn and practice your way into true happiness, you will be witness to some of the most magnificent and amazing moments life has to offer. Just about everything changes in a manner that brings you peace, well-being, abundance and true joy and happiness.  All those worries and woes cease to exist, health issues begin to improve, healing replaces pain, energy increases, positive thinking replaces negative thinking, money starts flowing in, and all those dreams and desires you have will begin to show themselves!  But, it doesn’t stop there.  Reaching this “level” of happiness will create a shift so great that nothing else will matter except for how you feel.  It is then that being unhappy will be nearly impossible because you will have had the sweet taste of true happiness and nothing will take you away from that!

66There is nothing to regret, feel guilty over, wish you had done differently or carry pain for.  Your transition into true and lasting happiness will in fact dissolve these feelings.  The things you feared the most won’t create as much pain or upset as you may have thought they would.  This is because when you are in tune with your Inner Life, when you are focused on being and feeling happy, your reactions and thoughts change with the desire of wanting to feel good.  You will react in a more positive manner, one that will not shatter your feelings of happiness.

Telling the truth about yourself to yourself and then making happiness your number one priority will change everything.  It changes how you feel, how you think, what you have and what you don’t have.  It creates healthy relationships, satisfying careers, and yes, it even creates more money in the bank.  It also puts you back in tune with your Inner Life, the greater part of who you are.  With this will come complete well-being.  What more could you ask for?

78Perhaps this is the time for you to look inside yourself and to be honest.  For you to tell the truth about yourself to yourself.  The truth as to what you are doing or not doing that is creating your unhappiness and dissatisfaction with life.  It is not life not giving you what you want, it is you not giving you what you want. 

If true and lasting happiness is what you seek, seek first from within.  Live, breathe and be your Inner Life.  Quiet your mind, focus solely on the present moment and allow the power of your Inner Life guide you to where you want to be ….

Taking A Leap of Faith – From Fear to Happiness

SONY DSCI used to fear being happy.  I was afraid if I became truly happy something or someone would take that happiness away from me so I lived in unhappiness.  What I didn’t know at the time was that there was nothing to fear and that I was the one responsible for my own happiness.  No matter what was said or done to me, I always had the choice as to how I was going to let it affect me.  Unfortunately, I allowed too many things affect me in a very negative way.  I allowed everyone to have control over my happiness.  Basically, I was putting my entire life in the hands of others because I didn’t know any better and because I was afraid not to.  I didn’t know all I had to do was to live through my Inner Life, the greater part of who we are.  To live in the present moment and allow life to move with me, instead of against me, took all the fear away.

34When I had enough unhappiness, I took a huge leap of faith from fear to happiness.  I let go of everything I was holding onto, especially my fear, and I CHOSE happiness.  I chose to feel good now instead of waiting for something or someone to make me happy.  I chose to be here now, to live and focus as much as I could in the present moment, and to live first through my Inner Life.  I set aside all those outer life things that were causing my fear and unhappiness.  I relaxed, trusted myself, and embraced life.  For the first time in my life I felt like I was able to breathe.  I was free from the pain and fear.  I soon came to learn there was nothing to fear in myself or in my life.  And there is nothing to fear in yours either!

789Was it, or has it always been easy?  No, of course not, but it has been well worth it.  The times that were difficult were only difficult because I was putting up resistance to what was, out of fear.  I was trying to control what was happening instead of remaining in my relaxed state of being and allowing life to flow naturally, easily and effortlessly.  In time, it did get easier and to this day I still have my moments where I sway just a little towards fear, but the good thing is that I am so aware of how I feel and how I want to feel, that I never fall.

E – Energy

A – Adventurous

R – Resilience

15What is fear?  Fear is a word.  A word we have given much power to.  Fear is a belief.  A belief that something is so bad it causes us to be scared.  Think for a moment about how putting the word fear to a thing creates such negativity and fear within ourselves.  For example, many of us are afraid of snakes and spiders, but why?  Because we were taught they were something to fear.  What if we were taught that kittens were something to fear and snakes and spiders were cute and cuddly?  Ok, that may be stretching it a bit, but I think you get my point.  The things we tie fear to are only in our minds.  We all have the power and the ability to change what causes us fear and what doesn’t.

Frog 02What are you afraid of right now in your life?  Are you afraid of changing jobs, moving to a new town, ending your relationship, not losing weight, getting sick, losing a loved one?  Which fears are causing you the most unhappiness and what are you going to do about it?  Isn’t it time to take a leap of faith from fear to happiness?  To trust yourself, relax and embrace life.  Or would you rather live the rest of your life wondering what could have been, if only …..

Where Are Your Mistakes

820So you made some mistakes ……. where are they now?  We have all made mistakes and we will ALL continue to make mistakes.  No matter how big or how small, how major or how minor, a mistake is only a mistake.  We are the ones who put meaning to it, just like we are the ones who control how long they will affect us and our lives.

There are way too many people in the world who live IN their mistakes.  They punish themselves over and over again with self-sabotaging behaviors because of something they did in the past.  Every mistake you have ever made is in the past whether it was 5 years ago or 5 seconds ago.  It is done and over with unless you hold onto it.  Yes, there may be consequences to those mistakes, but they don’t have to deprive you of your happiness.

I too have made many mistakes.  Some were very minor in nature and some were what I considered to be major, life changing mistakes.  Because I didn’t know how to let go of them and forgive myself, I kept them close to me, and before I knew it they started feeding on each other until I completely broke open.  I ended up going down a very dark road before I was able to see again. 

14You my friend, have the opportunity, every moment of every day to make the choice as to how your mistakes are going to affect you.  There is no need to play them out in your head to try to figure out why or how.  Just start from where you are.  Start from right here, right now.  Live from the inside out, through your Inner Life, not through your outer life which is where your mistakes are.  Your mistakes are not a part of who you truly are and they are not what is going to make you into this or that.  The only thing that can make you into anything is you.  They may influence you, but they don’t make you.  They are something you did while out of tune with who you really are, plain and simple.

97And no, I am not saying they aren’t an important part of your growth or evolvement, I am just saying they don’t need all your attention nor do they need to be carried forward for days or years to come.   

For me, moving past my mistakes was like taking a dark empty hole and filling it with fresh soil and new seeds so that beautiful bright flowers can grow to take the darkness away.  Your mistakes are the same way.  They can remain dark empty holes or you can fill them with flowers.  Which would you prefer?
