Where Are Your Mistakes

820So you made some mistakes ……. where are they now?  We have all made mistakes and we will ALL continue to make mistakes.  No matter how big or how small, how major or how minor, a mistake is only a mistake.  We are the ones who put meaning to it, just like we are the ones who control how long they will affect us and our lives.

There are way too many people in the world who live IN their mistakes.  They punish themselves over and over again with self-sabotaging behaviors because of something they did in the past.  Every mistake you have ever made is in the past whether it was 5 years ago or 5 seconds ago.  It is done and over with unless you hold onto it.  Yes, there may be consequences to those mistakes, but they don’t have to deprive you of your happiness.

I too have made many mistakes.  Some were very minor in nature and some were what I considered to be major, life changing mistakes.  Because I didn’t know how to let go of them and forgive myself, I kept them close to me, and before I knew it they started feeding on each other until I completely broke open.  I ended up going down a very dark road before I was able to see again. 

14You my friend, have the opportunity, every moment of every day to make the choice as to how your mistakes are going to affect you.  There is no need to play them out in your head to try to figure out why or how.  Just start from where you are.  Start from right here, right now.  Live from the inside out, through your Inner Life, not through your outer life which is where your mistakes are.  Your mistakes are not a part of who you truly are and they are not what is going to make you into this or that.  The only thing that can make you into anything is you.  They may influence you, but they don’t make you.  They are something you did while out of tune with who you really are, plain and simple.

97And no, I am not saying they aren’t an important part of your growth or evolvement, I am just saying they don’t need all your attention nor do they need to be carried forward for days or years to come.   

For me, moving past my mistakes was like taking a dark empty hole and filling it with fresh soil and new seeds so that beautiful bright flowers can grow to take the darkness away.  Your mistakes are the same way.  They can remain dark empty holes or you can fill them with flowers.  Which would you prefer?

What Is Your Happiness

694Like you, I search the internet for useful information.  One thing I have taken notice to is how many “steps” there are to achieving happiness or anything else for that matter. I don’t know about you, but if I were to try to follow 10 – 30 steps of anything I’d be exhausted before I even got started!  Now don’t get me wrong, the information may be useful but it is all too overwhelming especially for someone who is trying to overcome a struggle or achieve a specific goal. I do understand wanting to share what “works” especially when the advice comes from personal experience, but what about making it simple.

We try to get the people in our lives to follow in our footsteps because what worked for us will most definitely work for them!  I am guilty of this myself when it comes to family and friends.  I think to myself “if only they would just do what I do, everything would be fine”. But this is not always the case because everyone, even if they have the same desires, are on their own unique path, at their own rate of speed, so how you get there should be entirely up to YOU.  Of course you can seek guidance from others but I think it is important for each and every one of us to seek what we desire in a way we so choose.  In a way that makes US feel good.  In a way that adds to who WE really are.  The “way” does not matter as long as it brings you joy and happiness.

??????????????????????Life is not meant to be a struggle, it is meant to be joyous and fun so let’s make it that way!  Think about the things that will make your own personal journey through life meaningful, happy and satisfying. Think of it in terms of who YOU are, of what YOU want, and leave the rest behind.  You are the only one who can live your life so don’t you want to live it in your own way; making your own choices?  Just because a million people read a certain book that changed their lives, doesn’t mean you have to read that book, nor does it mean it is going to change your life.  There is certainly nothing wrong with trying new things, spending time with different types of people, or exploring what life has to offer.  This is how we “find” ourselves, through the people, places and things we choose.

The way I found my own happiness was by moving 3,000 miles away from everyone and everything I ever knew.  This may seem dramatic to some, but it was what I needed to do in order to figure out who I was and what I wanted out of life.  I was unable to do this with the influences I had around me so when the opportunity struck, I took it in a heartbeat. Was it worth it?  Yes!  It most definitely was and still is!  I re-connected to who I truly am by completely changing my life and feeling my way through each and every day. Now I only do what makes me feel good inside which has allowed me to see the treasures that lie within.  I still do things I would not normally choose to do, but I do them because someone else wants to do them, and in sharing that experience with them, it makes me feel good.

781Instead of trying to follow everyone else’s steps, make your own. Focus on what YOUR happiness is and where it comes from and then build your life around those things.  As long as you allow yourself to be who you truly are, everything else will fall naturally into place.  You won’t need steps or lists or advice.  Perhaps a little guidance from time to time, but once you tap into your Inner Life you will have all you need.

You Define You, Not the Past

728.jpgSome say the negative experiences of our past define who we are, but I am not sure if I believe this.  I am who I am because I choose to be.  Giving your past all the credit gives it power.  It holds you in a place that doesn’t always allow you to move forward.  It keeps you living in fear because you don’t ever want to go back to “those days” so you live in the confines of what you think will keep you safe from the past.  While at the same time you are also keeping yourself away from what life truly has to offer you.

Yes, there are things in my past I am not proud of or happy about but it is not those things telling me who to be.  I am being who I am because I want to be happy, healthy and abundant.  It makes me feel good to be a better, more loving and compassionate person, and to do what brings me joy.  My past did not define this, I did.  I was the one who made the decision of what kind of life I wanted and I am the only one responsible for it.

I know what you are probably thinking – you did a bad thing and it was that thing that made you want to change.  In reality nothing or no one can make you change except yourself.  The experience may have guided you in the decision to change, but it was all you.  It was you wanting to get back in tune with your Inner Life whether you were aware of it or not.

7061.jpgThere was a time when I indulged in negative and unhealthy behaviors and because I did not know any better I allowed them to define me.  I lived with a negative label of myself because I thought I had to in order to be healthy and happy.  I lived in fear that if I went to the wrong place or ran into the wrong people I would end up right back where I used to be.  I closed myself off from the world and moved 3,000 miles away from home just to protect myself from a past that did not exist anymore – a past that I allowed to define who I was.  But then one day I realized I held the golden key – the answer to any and all problems.  And that was feeling good through my Inner Life, not through my outer life.  All I had to do was get back in tune with the greater part of who I was and all the rest fell naturally into place.  There were no more negative labels and there was no more fear. 

719Once I let go of my outer life and allowed my Inner Life guide me, life completely changed.  I did not need anything other than myself to make me feel good.  Trust me when I say you don’t need anyone or anything in your outer life the way you think you need them.  They will all become an added bonus of pleasure and joy when they are “born” out of your Inner Life.  You are all you need to create a fulfilling, happy and abundant life.  Once you allow your Inner Life to guide you, and it will, and you will feel it, you will begin to fill with those unshakable feelings of peace, well-being, joy, happiness and love.  The greatest part of it all is that there will never been a negative past with your Inner Life.

Define who you are without the negativity of your past.  Live now, in the preciousness of each moment and see how quickly life starts working for you instead of against you.  Leave the past behind and know it’s all you – you couldn’t have done it without yourself!
